Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in New Jersey

The black streaks are algae and the green growth in the valleys is moss holding water against your shingles. Both come off - with a soft-wash approach, never a pressure washer.

The difference

Why it matters more than it looks

  • Moss holds moisture against the shingle mat and lifts the courses as it grows.
  • Algae streaking is cosmetic at first, but it marks a plane that stays damp.
  • Debris in valleys and gutters backs water up under the shingle courses.
  • A clean roof is far easier to inspect accurately.

How it works

How we clean a roof

  1. Protect first

Planting and hardscape are covered and pre-wetted before any treatment goes on the roof.

  2. Treat and dwell

A soft-wash solution is applied at low pressure and given time to kill the growth at the root.

  3. Rinse and clear

Gentle rinse, debris cleared from valleys and gutters, and everything below washed down.

Questions

Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal FAQs

Why not just pressure wash it?

Pressure washing strips the protective granules from asphalt shingles and can take years off the roof. Any contractor offering to pressure wash an asphalt roof is telling you something useful about their standards.

How long before the moss comes back?

Typically several years, depending on shade and tree cover. Zinc or copper strips at the ridge slow regrowth considerably, and trimming back overhanging branches helps more than anything else.

Will cleaning damage my shingles?

Not with a soft-wash approach at low pressure. The treatment kills the growth and the weather carries the residue away over the following weeks.
